firstdisapp_expanded

Flier for “The First Disappointment”, non-permit public performance, scrapyard, North Adams, Massachusetts, 2006. In relationship to a residency at Contemparary Artists’ Center.

This flier was modeled after a poster advertising a big band orchestra performing in North Adams in the 1930’s.

Some Melodies Regarding Blood Moons, Telegraphy, Rapture, Revolt, and Revival, as well as Comets, Meteor Showers, the Aurora Borealis, the Burnt Over District, and the Great Disappointment will be performed by an eight-vehicle orchestra on the 28th of August.

Each vocal and instrumental component of every song will be isolated from the other instruments and will be separately played on an individual vehicle’s car stereo. In unison, the cars will create a complete song within the center of the circle formed by parked vehicles.

The drivers and their passengers will couple dance in the circle formed by their parked vehicles and illuminated by their headlights.

This suite of songs has been composed by various musicians including Ven Voisey, Phalen LaValle, Christopher Marianetti and other participants of the Bang On a Can Music Institute. The lyrics were written by Mary Walling Blackburn and Danyel Ferrari.

The public is invited to attend. All attendees and participants should meet at 9pm in the Heritage State Park parking lot where further directions will be given. The performance will last roughly forty-five minutes from the initial meeting time. For further information please contact the Contemporary Artist’s Center, located in North Adams, Massachusetts, at (413) 663 9555.
